Sleng Teng Masters. 1986

This is our version of the famous reggae rhythm from the mid 80's. Reducer Universal Sound System played all the freshest plates back in those day's - Snake would get them from a vendor near Heathrow who imported many of the tunes we played. Sleng Teng was naturally one of them and sometimes, of course, Reducer Universal Sound System & Reducer the band shared the same ground - Sleng Teng is one of those times. We gave it the full Reducer treatment & really enjoyed playing it, which shows in the recording I think. It always a big crowd pleaser when we played live.

As with all Reducer recordings we only did one take, then mixed it once through the desk. There are occasional quality issues (most of the Masters are in fact 30-40 year old cassettes, recorded from the desk at the time of mixing) This means there are also some 'mistakes', but it didn't seem to matter at the time and we don't think it matters now. What is important is that the recordings capture the energy and passion that Reducer generated.
